Eureka, the industry’s premier manufacturer of vacuums was established in 1909. Fred Wardell, the founder, had been selling vacuum cleaners produced by other companies until he and his four partners decided to purchase the first plant in 1913. A decade after, they produced the first vacuum, Eureka Model 9, which was more affordable than their competitors’.

The vacuum cleaner used the same horsepower but was equipped with a front-mounted bag that customers preferred to Hoover’s rear-mounted bag. Eureka also offered a 10-day home trial making the vacuum an industry-standard at the time. The company managed to sell a million units in just three years and by 1927 Eureka had clinched a perennial second place after Hoover.

Later, Eureka expanded to incorporate other home appliances in their manufacturing line including air conditioners, heaters, and a purpose-built electric car in 1961. Today, Eureka vacuum cleaners are available in an array of sizes and shapes including:
  • Canister Vacuum Cleaners: This kind is suitable for cleaning hardwood floors, carpets, nooks, and crevices. They also come with attachments that enable you to clean curtains and upholstery
  • Upright vacuum cleaners: This design is suitable for people who can’t bend too much. They come with a detachable brush bar and accessories for deep cleaning and shifting from cleaning hard floors to cleaning rugs
  • Stick vacuum cleaners: These are similar to upright vacuums but they don't have as many accessories and are lighter. Also, they are cordless and ideal for everyday cleaning
  • Handheld vacuums: The vacuums are ideal for users looking for extremely portable cleaning equipment especially if cleaning workshops or garages
The company also manufactures filters, bags, and filters for each model providing consumers with a range of replacement parts. Its modern inventions are attuned to creating eco-friendly products as its vacuums display the Energy Star rating.

1.Eureka PowerPlush Cordless 2-in-1 Stick Vacuum: Lightweight Stick Vacuum

This stick cleaner transforms into a handheld device allowing you to clean many more surfaces within a short time. It is lightweight and comes with a floor nozzle that self-drives so you won’t need to move the stick vacuum across floors. What’s more, its high-powered battery supports a stable power and the suction doesn't reduce as the battery depletes. Here are some features that particularly stand out:

Anti-clogging Suction

Eureka adds a soft, thick rolling brush on the floor head for lifting both fine and large particles. Coupled with its powerful suction the device can clean cereal, hair, and common household messes. And in case of clogs, the machine comes equipped with a straight airflow path that makes it easy to unclog. In addition, the brush roll cover is translucent allowing you to identify any clogs.

Removable Floor Nozzle
It's probably the handiest feature for this device. You only need to press the buttons near the steel wand and the nozzle to use it as a handheld cleaner. The wand allows you to clean places as high as 48 inches.

Dual-opening Dust Cap
While cyclonic suction is common in upright vacuums Eureka has decided to incorporate it in this PowerPlush cordless vacuum. The company uses the feature to separate dust, debris, and other fine particles allowing the dirt to fall into the dust cap while the fine particles are captured by the reusable anti-allergen filter. The dual-opening design means the content opens in two ways. The first involves opening the top of the dust cup with a quick twist to rid of clumped debris like hair. When removing loose debris, push the cup-release button to open the bottom door.
  • Cordless design
  • Doubles up as a handheld vacuum
  • Powerful suction
  • The filter gets lose sometimes

2.Eureka PowerSpeed Base: The Cheapest Vacuum

Naturally, when shopping for a powerful vacuum, you’d think of a sky-high price. It’s not the case with this PowerSpeed Base vacuum from Eureka which touts incredible suction power at an affordable price. The device works well on carpets and hardwood floors removing all the dirt and debris from the surfaces. It comes off too powerful for cleaning thin, lightweight area rugs even on the lowest setting.

Its overall construction enhances versatility and function. Despite weighing a little less than 10 pounds, it’s outfitted with a washable filter so you don't have to purchase additional replacements. Also, its dust cup has a special design that makes it easy to empty the trash. At the push of a button, you can dislodge it and snap it right back in place.

Its three attachments (an upholstery brush, a crevice tool, and dusting brush) also come in handy when cleaning other surfaces. The dusting brush cleans lampshades, drapes, and window blinds while the crevice tool is outfitted with a narrow suction tube to clean hard-to-reach areas and tight corners.

Available at a low rate of $70, the Eureka PowerSpeed Base vacuum makes an incredibly affordable device for its performance. While it doesn't have many advanced features, its outstanding suction power makes it a worthy buy.
  • Lightweight design
  • Powerful suction
  • Easy to assemble
  • Extremely noisy

3.Eureka EasyClean Handheld Vacuum: Best for Pet Hair Removal, Stair and Upholstery Cleaning

Though corded, this handheld device has been hailed for its ability to remove pet hair and clean the stairs and upholstery. Also, its 20-foot power cord enhances reach allowing you to clean a wider area. Some of the features that stand out include:

The Riser Visor Feature
It is this feature that makes the device great for cleaning stairs and vertical upholstery as it concentrates the suction on that particular space-enhancing efficient cleaning.

Powerful Suction
A test on this vacuum’s suction shows it has a water lift gauge (suction) of 70. This is pretty powerful hence its ability to make a thorough clean on surfaces. The powerful suction also makes it easy to pick up tons of pet hair with minimal effort.

Multi-floor Cleaning
The device is not only suitable for cleaning carpets but laminate, hardwood, tile, and vinyl floors too. What’s more, it can be used with or without a roller brush.

Above-floor Cleaning
This handheld vacuum can clean floors and carpets and you can use it to clean spills from tables and countertops. Its compact design makes it particularly useful in cleaning vehicles.

4.Eureka Mighty Mite Bagged Canister Vacuum: Best Cheap Canister Vacuum

The budget-friendly canister is designed to vacuum bare floors, pick up pet hair and debris. It also cleans the carpet pretty well and if you need to get into hard-to-reach surfaces, the wand has two separate pieces that allow you to shorten it.
What particularly stands out about this piece is the ease of maintenance. While it doesn't have a brush roll, you can access the dirt compartment by removing the hose from the canister and opening the lid. The arrows on the bag should help you close the bag to avoid spilling the debris. What’s more, the vacuum is equipped with a large dirt compartment that has an indicator that alerts you when it is full.
  • Large capacity
  • Low maintenance
  • Picks up small and large debris
  • Flimsy plastic build

Are Cheap Vacuums a Worthy Buy?
Cheap vacuums don't always cut it. While some perform comparably well to their expensive rivals there are some notable differences in their construction. The Eureka Mighty Mite Bagged Canister Vacuum, for example, requires minimal maintenance and has a pretty large capacity. However, its plastic build makes it weak and not as durable as other expensive canister vacuums. It doesn't mean all cheap vacuums have a flimsy build, researching a brand’s offerings is critical to finding out if it offers affordable, high-quality vacuum cleaners.
