Roomba s9+ vs. Roomba s9: How Do They Compare?
Roomba s9+ vs. Roomba s9: Design
are some of the latest cordless robot vacuums from the iRobot Roomba series. They come new and unique D-shaped body style, which is meant to give better results when cleaning edges and corners while at the same time giving the vacuum a wider cleaning path. They are black in colour and have a golden disc like top. The brush roll on these models is lime green in colour and fitted at the front of the vacuum, instead of between its wheels to also enhance cleaning of edges and corners.
The side brush for both models was redesigned to move slower and be softer to prevent spreading dirt while cleaning. This also prompted the diffusion and redirecting of exhaust upwards to prevent blowing dirt all over while cleaning.
They are designed to use iRobot’s 3 Stage Cleaning system which is uses Dual Multi Surface Rubber brushes and is accompanied by suction power 40 times stronger than the usual Roomba. They are also designed to have ‘Carpet Boost’, a feature meant to increase suction power for better cleaning of carpet surfaces.
They come with Imprint technology in the form of Imprint Smart Mapping and Imprint Link. Imprint Smart mapping gives the Roomba s9 the ability to map its cleaning space, which could be your house or office. It can also be used to set up Zoned Cleaning, restricting cleaning to specific areas. Through the imprint Link technology the Roomba s9 and s9+ are also able to pair with the Braava Jet m6, which is a mopping robot that can be purchased separately, and enables them to work together and alternate cleaning spaces. The two robot vacuums are also fitted with multiple sensors, which are meant to keep the robot vacuums from falling off edges, bumping into obstacles and help them climb onto ledges. They also both come with 1 virtual barrier that can be used to restrict them to a specific area.
They both use iAdapt 3.0 technology and come with the recharge and resume function. This means when low on charge, they automatically stop their cleaning and go back to the charging base to recharge. When full, it automatically goes back to where it stopped to resume its planned cleaning schedule. Recharge usually takes 3 hours and they both have a run time of between 75 and 120 minutes. By connecting to a Wi-Fi network and using the iRobot Home app, the Roomba s9 and Roomba s9+ can be controlled from the comfort of your phone. Both these robot vacuums can also be Voice Controlled with the aid of Alexa and Google assistant. The clean button is found on the side for the Roomba s9 and Roomba s9+, which is quite different from the other Roomba models which have a centred clean button.
Both the Roomba s9 and s9+ measure 12.25 inches in diameter, 3.5 inches in height and they weigh a convenient 8.15 pounds. The Roomba s9 comes with the low profile charging base which is 3.5 inches tall, 5.5 inches wide and 5.75 inches deep. The Roomba s9+ on the other hand comes with a CleanBase Charger, which is 19 inches tall, 15 inches deep and 12 inches wide. This CleanBase also acts as a self-emptying station that sucks the collected dirt out of the robot vacuum.
The Roomba s9 and s9+ come with a fitted HEPA filtration system as part of the latest Aero Force cleaning system. This new Aero Force system may seem smaller bust is actually more efficient given its ability to filter out up to 3 microns of pollen, dust mites, allergens and mould. This makes it safe for use by people with asthma and other allergies.
Roomba s9+ vs. Roomba s9
The first notable difference in these two robot vacuums is the pricing. The Roomba s9 retails at a budget friendly price of $899 while the Roomba s9+ asks for a costly $1099 because of its CleanBase.
The Roomba s9 comes with the standard low profile charging Home Base while the Roomba s9+ comes with the bigger CleanBase Charger.
The CleanBase for the Roomba s9+ has a disposable dirt bag that works in tandem with a self-emptying feature. When the s9+ returns to the charging dock, the CleanBase sucks up the collected dirt from the Roombas collection bin and stores it in the disposable dirt bag.
The collection bin on the Roomba s9 is different from the one on the s9+. This is because the one on the s9+ has been designed with an allowance for the Clean Base to suck up the dirt from the collection bin.
Setting up the Clean Base for the Roomba s9+ requires assembly which is not needed for the Roomba s9.
The Roomba s9+ has an improved anti-allergen system that guarantees 99% cleaning. The Roomba s9 has an almost similar filtration system without the anti-allergen system.
It is important to note here that the Roomba s9 can be upgraded to the Roomba s9+. This is done by purchasing a Standalone CleanBase and collection bin, just like the ones that come with the s9+. The Roomba s9 is fitted with the new collection bin and can now dock at the clean base for self-emptying. This option is however not popular because of its costly nature.

What’s the better value?
This leads us to the question, what’s the better value when it comes to the

. Since the two robot vacuum cleaners have almost the same specifications in every aspect, determining which has better value is not easy. The key difference here is the self-emptying CleanBase and the allowance in the collection bins. These are also the reason for the pricing difference between the two models.
